EU Blue Card for high skilled foreign workers.
In January 2024 the Government of Cyprus has approved a bill for the issue of a Blue Card to highly skilled workers from third countries coming to Cyprus for employment.
This legislation aligns with the EU directive of the Blue Card that affords non-EU highly qualified individuals the privilege to live and work in an EU member state.
The Blue Card revisions introduce more flexible regulations for accessing long-term resident status, aimed at attracting skilled professionals to the EU.
Eligible employees from third countries must possess advanced professional qualifications, such as a university degree, and secure an employment contract or a binding job offer for at least one year with a salary exceeding the EU average.
The bill introduced the term “high specialisation” which means holding a tertiary education degree, or alternatively, directors and professionals in information and communication technologies (ICT) can have relevant professional experience of at least three years within the seven years preceding the Blue Card application.
The EU Blue Card has been coveted as Europe’s answer to the US Green Card.
The EU Blue Card is a work- and residence permit for non-EU/EEA nationals.
The European Blue Card provides comprehensive socio-economic rights and a path towards permanent residence and EU citizenship.
